  1. What is the EISZ?
EISZ is a national computer program which purpose is to purchase the necessary electronic data sources of the higher education and scientific researches centrally on the basis of a national licence in order to provide more information to a wider group of users on a lower price than earlier.   1. How can I access the EISZ?
EISZ is available through the homepage of the OM on the www.om.hu address by clicking to the menu of the Higher Education/EISZ or Research/EISZ or typing the address www.om.hu/eisz. The www.eisz.hu address is the homepage of the EISZ.

  1. Who is entitled to access the EISZ?
You can see the list of the entitled institutes here.
Researchers, students and tutors of the entitled institutes are free to access the system.

  1. What should I do if the name of the institute, the background institute, the research institute or the faculty does not appear on the list of the entitled institutes?
Please try to enter the system. If you are able to enter the system, the institute is missing from the list due to an administration mistake. In this case please send us a mail and we will correct the list. Please also send us a mail if you are able to enter the system.
If you are not able to enter the system and you get the error message: "Your computer is not on the list of the allowed IP addresses, please send us a mail with the name of your institute and the IP address." We will considerate your request and send you a mail about the decision.

  1. What should I do if the name of the institute, the background institute, the research institute or the faculty does not appear on the list of the entitled institutes but I am able to access the EISZ?
In this case your institute does not exist on the list due to an administration failure. Please send us a mail and we will correct the list.

  1. Where can I obtain a password?
By clicking the Registration link of the homepage (www.om.hu/eisz) you reach the registration page. After typing your date and accepting the terms of application by you, the system generate a password automatically and send it to your mail address typed at registration.
The e-mail arrives within 2-3 minutes and its speed depends on the settings of the local mail server. If the password does not arrive within 24 hours, please test the operation of the local mail server firstly, and please send us a mail.
By clicking the ENTRANCE signal on the homepage, you can reach the entry page where you have to add your user name and password to enter page of the services. At the page of the services you can change database.

  1. Where can I register myself?
By clicking the Registration link of the homepage (www.om.hu/eisz) you reach the registration page. After typing your date and accepting the terms of application by you, the system generate a password automatically and send it to your mail address typed at registration.

  1. Is the registration free?
Yes.

  1. What purposes are my personal data used for?
Please read the data protection policy, it is the basis of the data handling.

  1. How does this service work?
The system checks if the IP address of your computer is contained by the determined IP address range by the help of a proxy server. In the case that the IP address of your computer does not exist on the IP address list, the system sends an error message.
The system does not check if the user gives right date at the registration, but these data are retrievable and can be checked later by the authorised persons.
Providers offer their services across the Internet or from a database directly.

  1. Where can I change my password?
You can change your password after logging in by clicking the password change link at the left side.

  1. I am possessed of a password, but I am not able to use it. What should I do?
It is possible that you mistyped your password, or the settings of the browser are wrong. Please type your password again; numbers of the entrance attempts are not limited.
The system requires at least IE 6.0 to its operation. The following settings can also cause problems:
  • Turning the JavaScript run on.
  • Turning the Password storage function off.
  • Allowance of the "accept cookies" option.
  • The security level of the Internet Explorer browser can not be set to high level, because in case of the high level the browser is not able to receive the "cookies" arriving from the server and the EISZ pages also can not be watched.
Please contact the local system administrator to determine the valid settings, if you are not able to find the options.

  1. What kind of browsers are applied by the system?
At least Internet Explorer 6.0, or Firefox 1.5 are recommended.

  1. When do the new services start?
Implementation of new services is under discussion, and we will inform you about it via EISZ newsletter.

  1. I got the following error message : "Az Ön IP címéről nem engedélyezett a belépés" What should I do?
If your institute does not exist on the list of the entitled institutes, please send us a mail. Please send us also the list about the IP ranges of the authorized computers of the institute that contains also the IP addresses after agreed with the system administrator.

  1. I am working in the USA. Am I able to use the EISZ?
Unfortunately the contract is valid only in Hungary. In the case of being able to enter one of the Hungarian authorized institutes by using graphical technology (for example VPN), you will be able to use the EISZ. OKM works on improving the system.

  1. Can I access the EISZ from home?
You can use the EISZ from home only in the case of being able to join the server of any entitled institute by a dial up connection. In this case your computer gets an IP address out of the address range of the institute. If you have any problems with this, please ask the system administrator of your institute. OKM works on improving the system.

  1. Should I register myself simultaneously to every service?
No. Every system applies the same data. Note that some databases (ie. Science Direct, Web of Science, etc.) recommends separate registrations. These are completly different than EISZ registration, and optional. You can use some other functions in these databases if you are logged in (ie. alerts, personal homepage, saved items, etc.)
  1. I am not able to access the EISZ although I was able to access it yesterday. What can be the problem?
It can happen due to several reasons. Please test the below mentioned functions and send us a mail:
  • Can You access of other Internet sites?
  • Password mistyping.
  • Caps Lock status is On.
  • Num Lock status is off.
  • Browser settings (see the question 12.)
  • Proper version of the browser (see the question 13.)
  • In case of the busy signal error message, more than 100 person is on the EISZ system simultaneously. Please try to access later.
  1.  I am applying the Internet Explorer browser, and it sends me to the start page without any reason.
Please turn the automatic handling of the cookies off and set the acceptance of the cookies originating from the external, internal work processes. (Tools/Settings/Data protection)
  1. I am not able to download articles originated from earlier dates than 1997 from the Science Direct. What is the reason of it?
EISZ subscribes to the Science Direct content from 1995.
  1. I am not able to determine a searching period on the Web of Science that is earlier than 1975. What is the reason of it?
EISZ subscribes only to the Web of Science content later than 1975.
  1. What kind of ports I need to allow on the firewall for using EISZ? (Technical information for system administrators.)
All services using HTTP protocol. The following ports should be allowed:

  1. I forgot my password.
Please send an e-mail to eisz@hik.hu. Write your e-mail address which you registered before or your original username. You will get the password via e-mail.
 
 25.   I didn't use EISZ for a long time. Now I can't log in, because my username is not valid anymore. 
 
If you don't log in to EISZ for six months, your username is automatically deleted. You need to register again in order to use the databases.
